Language and Term #1

Just want to have a try writing in English.

Regarding to the subject that I'll take in the next semester, I would like to share some information.

The subject which is named with 'ilm en nafs el sariri should be translated in English as Clinical Psychology, not as Psychiatry. 'Ilm means study, nafs means mind or soul and sariri means clinical or literally as bed.

'Psychiatry' word in Arabic is Tibb en nafs which could be translated literally as Medicine of Mind, how to deal with mind through medical perspective.

So, what is difference between Clinical Psychology and Psychiatry?

According to Mr Wikipedia, Clinical Psychology is the scientific study and application of psychology for the purpose of understanding, preventing, and relieving psychologically-based distress or dysfunction and to promote subjective well-being and personal development. Hence it is a branch of Psychology, not Medicine.

Psychiatry is a medical specialty officially devoted to the treatment, study and prevention of mental disorders. Remember it's a branch of Medicine. To see how pathological conditions effect human mentally or psychologically.

Thanks a lot.

p/s I want to be a psychiatrist in my future. Interesting, right?
